Yuba ICE Custody History

Yuba County Jail has an important immigration-detention history. KQED reported in December 2022 that ICE was terminating its Yuba County Jail detention contract with 60 days' notice and described Yuba as the last public facility in California holding immigrants fighting deportation at that time. The research notes that older Yuba records may still mention ICE detention, ICE holds, or immigration release. That history should not be converted into current routing advice.

For current civil immigration custody, use ICE's Online Detainee Locator System. A missing Yuba County Jail roster result does not prove an ICE release, because the person may have transferred, been released by ICE, moved to another system, or left county custody years ago. If a local record is needed, request the Yuba booking and release record. If the current question is immigration detention, ODLS is the public starting point.

Confirm an ICE Release

ICE release confirmation starts with current immigration custody status, not a local jail feed. The county research did not support routing today's ICE questions through Yuba County Jail by default. Use ODLS first. If the person had an old Yuba jail booking connected to ICE, then use Sheriff's Records for the local booking/release record and treat it as historical local custody evidence.

2. Do not treat absence from the Yuba jail roster as proof of ICE release.

Do not ask the county jail to act as the current national ICE locator. The county's historic contract does not make it the default source for today's ICE custody status.

About ICE ODLS

ICE ODLS is a federal civil immigration custody locator. It is not a state prison search, county jail roster, BOP federal prison locator, or public release archive for every person with an immigration history. It is useful when the question is whether a person is currently in ICE custody. If the person has already been released or transferred, additional immigration records or legal case channels may be needed.

The Yuba County angle is local history. Yuba County Jail's former ICE role can appear in older records and memories, so the site should explain the history instead of ignoring it. But the correct present-day workflow starts with ODLS for ICE custody and with Yuba Records only for Yuba jail documents.

Yuba Detainers and Transfers

A detainer or transfer note can change the meaning of a release from jail. If a Yuba record says the person was released to another agency or moved under a hold, that is not the same as release to the community. In historic ICE cases, the local release record may document county custody ending while immigration custody continued elsewhere.

ICE Release Proof Limits

ODLS is a locator, not a certified release packet. If the person is not found, the result may reflect release, transfer, data limits, name variation, age restrictions, or another custody path. For formal proof, use the agency record process that matches the custody stage. For Yuba jail time, that means Sheriff's Records. For immigration custody, it means ICE or immigration case channels.

Older Yuba County files can still matter because the county jail formerly held ICE detainees under contract. A person researching an older detention stay may need the Yuba booking and release record, any transfer notation, and the date county custody ended. That local record may not show the final immigration outcome. It can only show what the county held and released or transferred.
